Summer of Hamilton
Ron Chernow, who wrote the biography Hamilton, which was the inspiration for Lin-Manuel Miranda’s hit musical, did some of his research at New-York Historical’s library. When the musical Hamilton was at it’s height in popularity, it was a moment to celebrate! New-York Historical wanted to highlight their collections that related to the historic events depicted in the musical and they had two life size statues depicting the duel between Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr on display during the summer of 2016. I used the statue of Hamilton by artist Kim Crowley as a starting point and leaned into the pop cultural moment to make something vibrant and eye-catching, and with a distinctly separate look from the musical’s brand and advertising. The color palette would later influence the 2017 New 4th Floor campaign.
